The looks

Do you remember that girl from primary school? The one that never dressed in super fashionable clothes, wore glasses and hid her chest behind a pile of books she was holding in her hands. Of course you don't remember her. Pretty much no one does, because there was always something more interesting and more fun to do than getting to know her better, not to mention hanging out together. Besides it's been eighteen years since you all joined the same first grade. Well guess what. Today, eighteen years later she's around 24 and in the meantime she finished her college and got a degree from applied modern technologies. And all that happened while she took part and won in "Miss University" competition, because now she's a sexy, sharp looking and even sharper thinking bombshell. Now you wish you had noticed her in primary school, don't you? That is pretty much a history of
+SKODA's Octavia model. She debuted in 1996 after Volkswagen had bought this Czech car maker. Inside it was a car put together on top of Golf's platform and consisting from leftovers that could have been found in
+Volkswagen's warehouses. On the outside... well, no one bothered how she looked and you could clearly tell that. Today it's a different story. Current Octavia coded Typ 5E was presented late in 2013 and went on sale in 2013. She has all the latest styling gigs like sharp lines of LEDs, even sharper and cooler rear lights plus a body as sexy as it gets in family sedans. Since I got the hold of a wagon version for the test, I decided I must borrow a pic from official Skoda Russia web page and show you exactly what I mean and what a jaw dropper she is. Octavia is no more a cheap nerd that drivers are ashamed to get out of. Now she's a truly sexy thing guys line up to stand next to. This is a real game changer for Skoda.

Interior
Inside the new Octavia is clearly more of a technical mind rather than an artist. She did her homework very well and is up to date with latest technologies. So maybe the tested car didn't have nav sat but still the center console housed a sleek touch screen with four key buttons on either side. Below you'll find a set of buttons and dials for A/C and... that's it. You may be thinking now that it's function over beauty, but that's not the case. It's actually function paired with class. Yes, I admit that the black on black is not the most exciting choice of colors when it comes to interior design but here it just works. Nothing to distract your attention and everything to make your driving easier. The only non black details are silver borderlines in each door to incorporate a chrome door knob. You might complain that it's boring, but come on, who doesn't like a sexy girl is a small black dress? Enough about the look, let's talk some more function. Apart from body comp giving you all details of your driving you get a user friendly Bluetooth not only to connect your phone but also to stream your music straight into the car's stereo system. Additionally there is an old fashioned CD slot and a SD card slot hidden away in glove compartment for the more modern ones. Need more. No problem. Octavia takes care about her drivers so much, that she'll even remind you to take your phone with you, when you're leaving the car, How cool is that? I told you, she's up to date with all the tech stuff.

The drive
If we compared driving an Octavia to dancing I'd say you probably can find better dancers than her. Don't get me wrong however. She's good at dancing slowly with lots of turns, so a waltz maybe. In other words, she'll feel great once you take her downtown or to a shopping mall. Her soft suspension dampens nicely whatever you misstep into while driving, plus a precise steering will help you in any tight turns or while parking. Octavia is not however a great fan of quicker dances. So jive or rock'n'roll are not going to be things she'll shine at. Her suspension is just too soft for faster and twisty driving. The car leans when cornering hard and oversteers very soon engaging ESP to hold your appetite for thrills. The engine I tested left me with mixed feelings. It was a 1.4l turbo petrol unit with enough horse power and torque to get me going just fine during any city drive and which was almost enough for a highway dash. I know we always want more and more power means just more fun, but this much was spot on for a daily driver that Octavia is. There was however one huge disappointment I was left with. The engine had so much turbo lag that I couldn't believe it. At first I thought I was revving it from too low, but that wasn't the case. Even above 2'000 rpm reaction to pedal was delayed by roughly a second or so. Can you get used to it? Absolutely. But I must say, that had there been no turbo lag I would have said it was a perfect engine for that car. Any other draw backs? Well, seats could definitely provide more lateral support. But if you consider the soft suspension and the general lack of Octavia's enthusiasm towards quick dances, it all makes so much more sense, doesn't it?

This Octavia is a first page of not a new chapter but rather a whole new story. She's grown, become more mature, and definitely got a lot sexier and smarter than she used to be. I saw with my own eyes people turning their heads to get a second glance. To look again at Skoda. Can you believe it? In addition to being pretty she's smart as well. All the latest gizmos you need like touch screen for your infotainment system, Bluetooth connectivity and SD card slot for your music MP3s are already inside. Plus she remembers for you to take your phone with you when you're getting out. Although she may not be the swiftest dancer in high speed turns she surely is more than enough to take you, your family, your dog and all of their luggage in comfort, style and at not heart stopping speed to any destination of your choice. Don't worry, you won't die of boredom on your way there either. And if you must have her bildingly quick just splash some cash and opt for RS version. With 220BHP, 6,8s 0-100 km\h and 248 km\h top speed, she'll get you there literally quicker than you think. Skoda aimed at building a car of all purposes and a one that could face all challenges of daily driving. Be it commute, salesman work or a taxi driver. Not only Octavia will do it all, but she'll do it in style. I can't wait to see more of her on the streets.
